A SOUTHERN NSW farmer got the best out of his sheep at the three-year Ovens Valley Best Wool, Best Lamb Wether Production Trial.
Pat Drew from Bethungra took out the overall first place at the Everton based trial last week.
Sheep producers have been gathering once a year for the past three at Helen and David Ross’ ‘Bloomfield Park’ to have their five pre-selected wethers’ fleeces evaluated.
They chose five of their wethers to be sheared and the micron and yield was assessed.
The fleece was then evaluated from most to least valuable and the average was calculated.
The best fleece average over the three years, along with the best meat price average for the third and final year determines the overall winner.
