Agents cautious about upgrade

LIVESTOCK agents are remaining cautious until plans, tenders and works commence on the $2.2m Wangaratta Saleyards redevelopment.

The development will include roofing the selling area and providing soft flooring for cattle.

It is estimated to grow economic output by $3.1m to $5.5m per annum.

The Rural City of Wangaratta has allocated $2.2m towards the project in its draft budget, but agents aren’t getting too excited just yet.

Without any locked in plans or timeframes, no one in the industry, including council, has any knowledge about the works’ finer details, as yet.

Council earlier this year decided not to hire a consultant for design and concept plans to develop the saleyards, but rather do the works in stages via a tender process.
