THE Federal Government’s agricultural white paper has been generally welcomed by farming organisations after it was released last week.
The white paper included:
• $500 million for water infrastructure;
• $1 million to map out agricultural infrastructure priorities; and
• Confirmation of $60 million for the Mobile Blackspot Program.
Victorian Farmers Federation Wangaratta branch president Greg Mirabella said although a number of funding announcements were already announced previously they would still benefit local farmers.
“They have doubled the amount for farm management deposit schemes which will help farmers spread their tax liabilities into other years when income may not be so good,” Mr Mirabella said.
“I believe Victoria has the largest amount of farm management deposits so it will help a lot in this state.
“From the farmers’ point of view it is good to have an ACCC commissioner specifically for agriculture and hopefully it might lead to new regulations or modifying legislation which could help producers.”
