Spring sale beef boom

ONE of the best spring cattle sales in memory was the view of many at Friday’s Spring Weaner and Grown Steer sale at Wangaratta Livestock Exchange.

Record or near record prices, top quality beasts and a strong crowd made a competitive atmosphere ensuring the high beef prices would continue.

Justin Keane, Corcoran parker Wangaratta director said it was a very strong market of very good quality with all buyers in attendance and plenty of competition from feedlots and restockers.

“There were plenty of blokes who went home empty handed,” he said.

“One pen of light weight calves made up to $3.90 to $4.00 per kg and any cattle more than 300kg made between $3.30 and $3.80 per kg.

“Heifers were a fair but up with 300 plus kg reaching $3.00 to $3.10 per kg and lighter ones $3.40.

“Store sales cattle cents per kilograms taken over the cents per kilogram for fat or prime cattle.”
