Multiple agencies respond to ill climber at Mount Buffalo

EMERGENCY services escorted a Mount Buffalo climber to safety after a man in his 20s suffered a medical incident on Saturday evening.

A SES spokesperson said crews across multiple agencies, including Fire Rescue Victoria Wangaratta, attended the incident at around 4:45pm on Saturday, November 16.

A Bright SES spokesperson said a rock climber suffered a medical incident whilst ascending one of the more challenging climbs.

"Fortunately he was part of a climbing group who were able to support him prior to our arrival and who also greatly assisted in getting him to the top," they said.

"The rescue involved one SES member descending to the climber and, in conjunction with the other climbers, helping him to a safer site whereupon AV was able to reach the new location and examine the casualty."

The SES spokesperson said the climber was able to be walked back onto the track on a belay line.

Four hours after emergency services were called, the climber was deemed safe.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics assessed a man in his 20s – he didn’t require emergency medical treatment or transport and was left in the care of family and friends.
