Heavy metal bonus for Glenrowan-Warby Ranges Lions Club

SCRAP metal from the Inland Rail construction site at Glenrowan has been cashed in and the proceeds handed to the local Lions club to carry out important community work.

Inland Rail construction partner, McConnell Dowell, working with local scrap metal business Thomo’s Cash for Scrap, has raised $4500 from metal recovered from the site.

The steel was recovered from the reinforcement works for the new Beaconsfield Parade bridge and general construction activity onsite.

The new bridge is part of major works along the Melbourne to Brisbane rail line as part of the multi-billion dollar Inland Rail project to help facilitate double decked freight trains use the line.

Ed Walker, Inland Rail delivery director B2A, said the Glenrowan-Warby Ranges Lions Club is a valued organisation that helps local people in need and the funds will help them to continue to carry out important work in the community.

“Inland Rail is determined to leave a positive legacy in the communities we work in along the alignment," he said.

“The Lions club does remarkable things in the community, and we’re delighted we could help.”

Miguel Reyes Cardenas, McConnell Dowell construction manager hoped the "small gesture can make a big difference" in the community.

Ross Kelly, Glenrowan-Warby Ranges Lions Club president, thanked Inland Rail, McConnell Dowell and Thomo’s Cash for Scrap for making this happen.

“We will put the money to work to support local families in need, maintain local sites and help run our successful monthly market,” he said.
