HARBRAE Herefords is located at Hores Road in Talgarno, a tiny town on the shore of Lake Hume, just east of Albury.
Operated by Luke and Nina Harris, the couple are committed to producing commercially relevant seedstock poll herefords that are sound in structure, fertile, calve easily and are easy to handle.
Luke and Nina run their cattle on a small acreage property and are focused and committed solely to their poll herefords - it's where there passion lies.
"Harbrae Herefords goal is to run a herd of excellent maternal females with very sound udders and milk production that is breed average or better," said stud principal Nina. Being a boutique operation what the stud lacks in quantity is certainly made up in quality, with Harbrae Herefords producing a limited number of high quality bulls annually.
Each year, one or two of their most suitable bulls are exhibited at the Herefords Australia National Show and Sale, which is held in Wodonga annually during May.
Nina said 100 per cent of their herd undergo genomic testing as well as annual independent structural assessments conducted by Liam Cardile from BeefXcel.
"Liam also ultrasonic scans all of our calves at 13 to 15 months of age for fat depth, eye muscle area and intramuscular fat," said Nina.
The couple then spend a considerable amount of time in selecting the most suitable sires to complement their female herd, utilising AI, IVF and embryo transfers to zero-in on their best genetics.
Harbrae Herefords also strive to hold straws of the best Australian and International sires in support of their program, as well as having high quality sires on property such as Mawarra Vodka, Kianma Signature and Mawarra Willpower to run with their females post the AI, IVF and ET process.
Harbrae Herefords' top priority is to run ethically-raised, fully-recorded cattle that are respected and without exception given a great life.
Luke and Nina look forward to welcoming the cattle community to their property during Stock and Land Beef Week, with the farmgate open at their Talgarno property on Tuesday February 4, day seven of the eight day event.
Alongside the stud's cow families and walking sires, there will be around seven bulls on display on the day, with the bulls for sale by private treaty post the event.
Nina said they will firm up numbers closer to the date after the bulls have been scanned, assessed and semen tested.
Outside of Beef Week, inspection by appointment works for the Harrises during the year.
