ON Saturday February 2, John and Fiona Glover are again looking forward to welcoming old and new friends and clients on-farm to the 2025 Wattlewood Angus Beef Week Open Day and Bull Sale Preview.
The Lang Lang-based Wattlewood team have been working towards preparing a strong line-up of 35 bulls for visitors to view in preparation for the 2025 Wattlewood Angus Bull Sale on Friday March 7 at 12 noon.
After the closure of the VLE Pakenham sale yards, the Elders-Delaney and SEJ agents have come up with a new day and date to suit all parties with clients in mind.
Once again, the bulls are naturally quiet, have been genotyped, semen tested and are Immune Ready compliant being P.I. Negative and having been vaccinated with all the required vaccines (7in1, Pestigard, Vibrovax and Rhinogard), making them "ready to work".
Fiona, an artificial insemination technician, joked "the bulls are frustrated at Wattlewood and are probably looking forward to the sale too and ending up with a paddock full of cows or heifers".
Another highlight for the stud this coming sale, is the offering of "the pick of the pair" where two top-of-the-drop yearling heifers will be put up at the auction with all proceeds going to The Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer Council Australia.
The successful bidder on the heifers is able to select the heifer of their choice.
Females will have had all their health checks done in advance with both phenotypically outstanding heifers with terrific pedigree, EBVs and genomic data.
“We are excited to be able to support The Biggest Morning Tea and all the work they do in cancer awareness, prevention and research to help find reliable early detection methods, with the ultimate goal to cure this horrible disease that effects too many friends and family," said Fiona.
With the heifer comes a great starter package for a budding young stud breeder or for the astute cattle producer alike.
The Angus Society has donated a membership, a registration for the heifer's first calf, a genomic test as well as some great merchandise, while ABS has donated a $200 semen voucher to join the heifer, and The Cattle Shop has donated a halter, nose lead and a comb, should the purchaser choose to continue her show career in the future.
The Wattlewood Team will have the kettle hot on the day offering up their good, old-fashioned hospitality, ready for a chat about their genetics and their breeding program with their visitors.
And if you can’t make it on February 2, just give Fiona a call on 0416 216 951 to arrange a day that does suit.
