ORGANISERS rated last Sunday's Rutherglen Agricultural Show a huge success with the biggest crowd seen in years on the back of strong community support.
Rutherglen Agricultural Society president Greg Lumby said business support and sponsorship meant free entry could be offered to visitors.
“Our major sponsor was O’Connor Machinery from Corowa and the show wouldn’t be possible without sponsorships,” he said.
An action-packed family fun day for the 133rd annual show had a huge variety of activities and competitions stretching from stud sheep and fleece to a ‘make it, bake it, sow it, and grow it’ section for primary schools, to chooks and farm produce, a pet parade and everything in between.
Mr Lumby said woodchopping, dog jumping and a fabulous display of horse riding events had been among big hits on the day drawing the crowds.
Among many displays had been Rutherglen High School (RHS) students' woodwork and metalwork and other crafts while face-painting for the kids and a side show alley had been popular too.
Mr Lumby said the RHS cattle handling team joined forces with Saint Francis of Assisi Primary School students in a cattle led competition.
“We had a great response from volunteers this year and the show was back to more than full capacity (for the first time) since 2019,” he said.
COVID-19 impacts had halted the show for two years.
“The community is keen for the show to continue and people stepped up,” Mr Lumby said.
“With a great show it will be even better next year when people jump on board with continued support and greater sponsorship from businesses.”
"It’s the only agricultural show in Indigo Shire”.
