Hawks on top after first innings of shield final

ROVERS United Bruck are in a strong position in the WDCA A grade one-day grand final after bowling Wangaratta Magpies out for 130 at WJ Findlay Oval.

After winning the toss and batting, ‘Pies skipper Cooper Matheson clobbered 50 from 43 balls to help his team off to a flyer, before losing his off stump to Jeremy Wilson.

Jack Davies (23 from 62) and Fraser Ellis (15 from 34) would provide some fightback, but the tail didn’t fire, with three lower order ducks.

Charlie Lugg was on fire with the ball, picking up 5/16 form his 6.5 overs, while Wilson (3/23), Jacob Schonafinger (1/26), and Brady Bartlett (1/29) also struck.

Rovers United Bruck need 131 to claim the silverware.
