Mansfield Show brings town and country together

MUSTERING, yarding, guarding and just having fun, dogs will be a top feature in this year’s Mansfield Show on Saturday November 16.

Dr Rod Manning will demonstrate dog training for sheep work, pet dogs will have their moment in the small dog dash and the elite dog athletes will compete in the dog high jump.

This year there are great prizes for ‘best dressed’ dog entrants and their owners.

All the fun of rural life will be at the show and the list of activities is bigger than ever.

The all singing, guitar playing and whipcracking Lachie Cossor is bringing his popular Outback Stockman show back to entertain the Mansfield crowds.

A feature of the horse events will be the showcase of rural riding talent in the Stockman’s Obstacle Challenge and on the grass arena horses and riders will compete in ridden and led classes.

Children can enter pavilion competitions and outside games and activities for free.

With early spring we will have a magnificent display of floriculture, and the Ed Harris Pavilion will be filled with a heady perfume of roses and lilac.

This year rose gardeners will compete to win the Val Parks Champion Rose trophy and children can enter their ‘Mr Hairy’ and the fairy garden competitions.

Always popular, sideshow ally will be filled with fun rides, laughing clowns and lucky ducks.

Show bags are on offer too.

A balloon twister will entertain the younger children by making amazing creations such as unique wearable crowns and even sausage dogs.

Always a draw card are working vintage engines and large vehicle displays with their owners on hand to answer any questions from any fellow enthusiasts.

The Scout Hall will be filled with stories, essays and handwriting student entries in the Writing classes.

This year the local primary schools and homeschoolers are sending selected art and craft works to join the writing displays.

It will be an inspiring collection of creativity.

Bakers of muffins, scones and carrot cakes will vie for prizes in the cookery section held in the Ed Harris Pavilion.

Men have special prizes for their baked goods too.

Children can enter a myriad of junior cookery classes such as iced cupcakes, gingerbread person and decorated Marie biscuits.

Young adults down to tiny tots can join the Young Citizen’s competitions.

The Rural and Junior Ambassador competitions provide a great opportunity for a young person to talk about their interests and engagement with the local community.

The 2023 winner of the rural section was very successful and became runner up Rural Ambassador at this year’s Royal Melbourne Show.
