MANAGING plastic waste is a major challenge for farmers.
With 8000 tonnes of farm plastics used annually in Australia the environmental impact is significant.
Addressing this issue head-on, Biogone has developed Australia’s first landfill-biodegradable silage stretch film and hay bale netting, offering a practical solution that meets the demands of modern farming without compromising environmental responsibility.
Australian Bio-Plastics is excited to partner with Biogone to bring these products to the farming community.
This partnership ensures that farmers have access to solutions that protect their crops while playing a vital role in building a more sustainable future.

Biogone’s innovative products incorporate a highly biodegradable organic polyester into conventional plastic.
This polyester attracts microbes in landfills, accelerating the biodegradation process by 90 per cent compared to traditional plastics.
Crucially, this process does not produce harmful microplastics and results in organic matter, a natural fertiliser.
What sets Biogone’s landfill-biodegradable plastic apart is that it offers the same durability, flexibility, UV protection and moisture resistance as conventional plastic.
These products won’t start to biodegrade until they reach landfill conditions, remaining reliable and effective for crop protection without any shelf-life concerns.
Additionally, Biogone’s silage wrap and hay bale netting are recyclable through local agricultural plastic recycling programs, supporting broader sustainability initiatives within the farming community and helping reduce the volume of plastic waste in landfills.
Dr. Ross Headifen, co-founder of Biogone, emphasises the importance of proper disposal said “Our landfill-biodegradable products will not biodegrade if simply buried in the ground, as there are insufficient microbes.
"We encourage farmers to work with local recycling programs, and where none are available, work with plastic waste collection programs to have these products disposed to a modern landfill.”
