Sunshine and fun at the Whittlesea Show

SUNSHINE and spectacle greeted visitors at the annual Whittlesea Show over November 2 and 3, with thousands of people taking advantage of the weather to attend.

Based on the fringe of urban Melbourne, the show provides the opportunity to interact with an array of animals in a close setting.

From cattle, alpacas, and miniature donkeys to piglets and poultry, attendees had the opportunity to see and interact with animals and learn from owners.

An extended sheep display meant attendees were treated to an entire weekend of sheep competitions.

Families were thrilled by the playful pygmy goats.

These small, friendly animals were an instant hit, as they were paraded in the inaugural Pygmy Goat competition.

The City of Whittlesea perpetual trophy, awarded to the entrant who achieves the greatest number of points across cattle, sheep and produce sections, was this year won by Arcadia Farms.

The City of Whittlesea continue to be the show’s major sponsor.

Farming skills were tested in the interactive harvester, and a walk through the Royal Flying Doctor Service plane gave a glimpse into life in this challenging line of work.

For those who appreciate hands-on learning, the heritage pavilion shearing, blacksmithing and hay baler demonstrations are an ever-popular staple.

Rope making offered a rare chance to see skilled volunteers create ropes from natural fibres.

Children made their own rope as part of a new showbag campaign.

The Pavilion Hunter Showbag allowed children the opportunity to collect from pavilions across the show.

From carrots, wool, and rope to a bauble kit and an apple, each item reflected the pavilion from which it was collected.

Whether it was the cooking demonstrations, stage performers or the exciting wood-chopping competitions, there was always something.

As one of the largest agricultural shows in Victoria, and almost entirely run by volunteers, the Whittlesea Show will continue to be a beloved event in the community’s calendar, offering the perfect mix of nostalgia and innovation for years to come.

For those looking to unwind and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, the bar area offered a perfect spot to enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking in the surroundings.

Located near a bustling food court, it provided a comfortable place to relax after visiting the many exciting exhibits.
