Jade Park Angus realises long-term goal

WITH a date now set in March, the excitement is building at Jade Park Angus in North East Victoria with the McLean family enterprise gearing up for their first ever on-farm sale at their Hansonville property.

The sale represents the natural progression for a stud that has been successfully selling bulls for just on 15 years, with Jade Park establishing a strong client base and firmly cementing its reputation for premium quality sires.

In recent years the McLeans have also purchased more land, taking their holding to over 1000 acres, and allowing the enterprise to grow.

Jade Park principal Andrew McLean said that they have been expanding the stud year by year, in keeping with Jade Park’s overall vision.

“This year’s line-up of bulls is looking fantastic which verifies that long term goal to showcase these bulls to a wider audience at our inaugural bull sale,” said Andrew.

"The plan has always been to take it to the next level, which is now coming into fruition with 50 bulls set to go under the hammer on March 26.”

Andrew confirmed that there will be a strong showing of New Zealand genetics at the sale with progeny from Taimate Stud sires, including offspring from the very successful Taimate Lazarus L12 part of the March 26 line-up.

“We have the largest registration of his calves in Australia, and will have a large cohort up for offer in 2024,” said Andrew.

"Taimate Angus have been breeding top quality bulls since 1956, and Taimate Lazarus L12 is a prime example of that real New Zealand type of soft fleshing, easy doing, fat–covered cattle.

“We have favoured New Zealand genetics in recent year, with our commitment further reinforced by a ‘working’ holiday to the South Island earlier in 2023 which involved visiting numerous bull sales.”

Adding to the impressive catalogue of bulls are a good handful of sons from feature bull Turiroa ‘Ragnar’ P224 (another Kiwi stand-out), with progeny from elite sire Rennylea NORL519 also meeting Jade Park’s stringent criteria and making the grade.

Representing an exciting opportunity for investors are sons of Premier Ralph R72 (ASHR72), with the sire ranked number one for foot structure in Australia via the Angus Australia EBVs, and number two globally for structural soundness.

Purchased from the Premier Angus dispersal, his impeccable structure in both foot angle and claw set make his sons a valuable addition to any breeding program.

With R72 breeding true, Jade Park envisages his progeny will continue to be a highlight at future bull sales.

“Our aim has always been to make our clients’ lives simpler and safer via producing bulls with that structural soundness and quiet disposition - which are both non-negotiables – along with low birth weight and explosive growth,” said Andrew.

"Our goal as a family has been to breed the very best herd we can.

“It’s a lifetime ambition and the enjoyment and satisfaction we derive from breeding genetically beautiful animals can never be underestimated.

“It’s why we do what we do.”

Jade Park Angus will be participating in Beef Week in 2024, with the visitors invited onsite on Tuesday January 30, with the stud’s inaugural on-farm sale taking place on March 26.

“Our aim is to create a community event at the bull sale, providing an atmosphere for everyone in attendance to meet and greet with lunch, coffee and drinks provided,” said Andrew.
