Mercy Health taking over Bentley-Wood Myrtleford

MYRTLEFORD'S sole private aged care facility is changing hands.

Mercy Health has entered into binding agreements to acquire the Bentley Wood aged care homes in Myrtleford, as well as Yarrawonga.

The two facilities are collectively home to more than 200 residents and are a key service in each of the communities.

BentleyWood-Myrtleford offers 81 private ensuite rooms or permanent and respite care, and is the largest of the town's two aged care facilities - the other being the public Barwidgee Lodge.

Mercy Health will take over the responsibility and care for residents from Monday, December 2.

Family members of the residents were invited to an information session on Friday.

"Residents and their families or representatives and guardians can be assured that the home-like environment of Bentley Wood and the care received by residents will continue to be of the highest standard," director of Bentley Wood Aged Care, Brian Fitzpatrick said.

"The home will continue to operate as usual."

Fellow director, Terry Hall assured that "from day one of this transfer of ownership, all staff will be offered employment with Mercy Health".

"All of us at Bentley Wood Health and Aged Care would like to thank the many people who have contributed to the high-quality care and lifestyle of the residents living at the facility."

Mercy Health's chief executive of healthy ageing, Clare Douglas, said the acquisitions will build on Mercy Health’s existing aged care footprint in North East Victoria.

“Expanding to Myrtleford and Yarrawonga is an exciting next step in Mercy Health’s mission to provide compassion and care to more communities across Australia," she said.

“We are grateful to the Bentley Wood team for entrusting Mercy Health to continue providing essential aged care services in Myrtleford and Yarrawonga and and we look forward to working with staff, residents of the homes and their families, to ensure a smooth transition to Mercy Health.”

Currently, Mercy Health operates 30 aged care homes across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, with each home offering individualised and comprehensive care options for residents.

The Mercy Health organisation has operated in Australia for more than a century, and offers acute and subacute hospital care, aged care, mental health programs, specialist women’s healthcare, early parenting services, palliative care, home and community care.
