THE Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare Group were recently awarded a FRRR grant to purchase tools and equipment, with the grant awarded through the Strengthening Rural Communities Program.
The funding will purchase important equipment needed to complete revegetation works on both public and private land in the group's Landcare area, which encompasses the upper reaches of Merri Creek and Bruces Creek, around Upper Plenty and Heathcote Junction.
Necessary equipment included requisite signage, planting augurs, loppers, secateurs, wheel barrows and PPE, with UPMC secretary Michael Watson confirming the type of work the group will continue to do includes erosion and weed control workshops.
"This will be alongside field days and planting days to restore habitat for wildlife and improve farming productivity, which are conducted with the help of our community members and volunteers," he said.
Previously relying on borrowing equipment from other groups or members, UPMCL are thrilled they will now be able to work and plan independently.
