AGRICULTURAL and pastoral societies across Southern and Central Victoria have received funding as part of state government backing to keep regional shows thriving.
Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence announced a total of $300,000 divided across 34 Agricultural and Pastoral Societies with money to improve showground amenities like fencing and essential infrastructure upgrades.
“The Agricultural and Pastoral Society grant program is all about empowering the organisations that know their regions best to showcase the very best of their region,” said Ms Spence.
Earlier this year, eligible societies applied for grants of up to $10,000 through the program, with funds going towards infrastructure development and other business activities to celebrate Victoria’s agricultural communities, industry and produce.
Agricultural societies in Ballarat, Dandenong, Berwick and District alongside Lang Lang. Lilydale, Pakenham, Red Hill, Geelong, Seymour and Sunbury were all successful in their grant applications, with groups like the Balnarring Pony Club also receiving funding.

The upgrades will help reduce energy bills and mean the facilities can be used as a community hub during natural disasters, as well as throughout the year by groups such as Little Athletics, junior football, school sport, and sheepdog trials.
“The Agricultural and Pastoral Society grant has allowed the Port Fairy AP&H Society to put on a quality show that brings the community and visitors together for an educational and fun experience,” said Port Fairy Agricultural Pastoral and Horticultural Society Inc spokesperson Michael Watts.
Previous projects funded under the program include new animal yards, fencing, shade covers and lighting or upgrades to shearing pavilions, luncheon halls, public amenities and viewing stands.
